I really enjoyed painting this one. The sunset felt almost playful to me—the sky was so colorful and vivid, with all those soft pinks, purples, and blues. It reminded me of cotton candy and made the whole scene feel a little dreamy and magical.

This piece felt personal to me. We’ve all felt alone at some point in our lives. Orcas are incredibly social animals, so seeing one moving quietly through still water with no pod in sight felt especially meaningful. There’s something quietly powerful about that.

It Takes Two

There’s something about orcas that has always fascinated me, even as a child. I love how they travel together in close-knit family pods, often staying together for years. I wanted this painting to capture a simple, peaceful moment of two orcas moving through the water together.

Maui is one of my favorite places in the world — the beaches, the warm water, the Road to Hana, the kindness of the locals, the unhurried pace of it all. This painting started with that feeling. The sea turtle, the honu, moves through the water the way Maui moves through you — slowly, peacefully, like it has nowhere to be and everywhere to go.
